Cayla is a Student Success Coach in the Office of Financial Aid Student Success Center. In this capacity, she works with students one-on-one to connect them to resources on campus and help them realize their individual goals during their college experience and beyond. Cayla loves meeting new students and helping them design their own path to success. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in public affairs at the Robert M. La Follette School of Public Affairs.
Prior to joining the Success Center, Cayla worked at a national Latino civil rights and advocacy organization in Washington, DC. While there, she partnered with educators, college students and parents to advance opportunities for Latino students and English learners through state and federal education policy. Her favorite memory was going to Capitol Hill with six college students to advocate for policies that addressed student housing insecurity and increased campus resources for undocumented students. Before moving to Washington, DC, Cayla taught English at a Brazilian university as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant and served as an Americorps member for two years in Boston, MA. She holds a dual bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in Spanish & Portuguese Studies and Economics.
