State Student Employment Summit

Join Us for the Student Employment Summer Summit!

Date: June 15th 12-4:30pm

Connect with fellow student employment colleagues from surrounding Wisconsin and Illinois Colleges and Universities for an opportunity to engage and discuss important and hot topics surrounding student employment.

The summit will also give you the chance to meet new faces in the field as well as reconnect with familiar ones.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS

We are seeking proposals for 45-minute virtual breakout sessions! This year’s overall theme will address enhancing our understanding of best practices within the field of student employment. Breakout sessions can take the form of workshops, panel discussions or lectures.

To submit your proposal to present or for a session you would like to see, please complete this form by May 7th. You will be notified the following week if your proposal has been selected.

12-1 pm: Keynote address by Dr. Louis Macias

1:05-2 pm: Breakout Session #1

2:05-2:50 pm: Breakout Session #2

2:55-3:40 pm: Breakout Session #3

3:45-4:30 pm: Happy Hour / Networking Event

Dr. Louis Macias has served as the Executive Director of Recruitment, Diversity and Inclusion for the UW-Madison Police Department since 2019. In this role, he leads various functions within the department including recruitment and hiring, onboarding and support for new employees, diversity, equity and inclusion training, workplace climate, and supporting micro-and-macro-level efforts to build positive relationships between the department and the UW-Madison campus community it serves.

Dr. Macias has spent his entire career in education. He began his career as a middle and high school social studies teacher, a cherished role he held for 7 years. For the last 11 years, he has served in a number of formal leadership roles in higher education at universities in both Florida and Wisconsin. These roles have included work in areas such as academic advising, pre-college programs, admissions/enrollment management, fundraising and multicultural affairs.

Dr. Macias earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from Florida State University, his Master’s degree in K-12 Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University and his doctoral degree in Higher Education Administration from Florida State University. Having moved to Wisconsin from his hometown of Miami, Florida in 2015, Dr. Macias now resides in the Madison area with his wife Jamie and daughters Sofia (7) and Olivia (1).

Call for Breakout Session/Roundtable Presenters

We are calling for proposals for 45-minute virtual breakout sessions! Presenters are essential to the professional development of student employment professionals at every level. We are calling for presenters who want to share their knowledge, share a best practice, or plan a roundtable discussion to engage different perspectives and information in regards to student employment topics.
