Are you looking for a specific position, job description, or work location? Use the search bar on the left hand side of the job board. There, you can search for anything which may appear within the posting.

When searching for your perfect employment opportunity, be sure to utilize the filters located on the left hand side of the job board. There, you can search by remote eligibility, job type, job category, or job outcomes.

In the top right corner of the Student Jobs Portal, click the red “Applicant Login” button. This will open the Application portal. Login using your NetID by clicking the “Next” button in the center of the page.
After logging in, you will be asked to verify your personal information, including your name and email address. Once you have confirmed the details, click “Next” again. Then, you will be able to view your submitted & completed applications, along with their statuses (e.g., Accepted, Not Selected, Applications Close On ______, etc.)

On the Jobs Portal, there is a gray button in the top right corner that says “Job Alerts”. Click this button to be taken to the “Job Alerts Subscription.” With this function, you can enter your email address and keywords, while selecting job types, categories, outcomes, and locations you want to be alerted to. At the bottom of the page, hit “Subscribe” to receive an email notification when new jobs are posted in those categories or with the keywords you entered.

Also in the top right corner of the Jobs Portal, you will find the “Send Me Jobs Like These” button. This feature is similar to the “Job Alerts Subscription,” allowing you to subscribe to notifications for job postings that match your search. After applying filters and entering keywords, click the “Send Me Jobs Like These” button to open a box where you can enter your email. Once you hit “Subscribe,” you will start receiving notifications for similar postings.

Job Types
UW Student Jobs: Part-time, student hourly positions on the UW-Madison campus. This can include campus office assistants, undergraduate lab positions, dining hall positions, and similar opportunities.
Local Student Jobs: Part-time positions off-campus in the greater Madison community. This can include local restaurants, child-care positions, clothing stores, business offices, and similar opportunities.
Local Work-Study Student Jobs: Part-time, student hourly positions in the greater Madison community that require the Federal Work-Study award. Includes non-profit and small-business organizations that partner with UW-Madison.
UW Student Assistant: Positions for graduate students on the UW-Madison campus. This can include teaching assistantships, project assistantships, research assistantships, and similar opportunities.
Understanding Federal Work Study at UW-Madison
FWS is not a grant or loan program applied directly toward tuition. Rather, work Study offers needs-based, part-time employment to eligible students who answer “Yes” to the Work Study question on the FAFSA.
With this program, the government and employers share the cost of wages. Students earn their awarded amount by working in an approved UW-Madison Work Study Student Job.

Positions focused on collecting, entering, coding, and analyzing data, including data processing from research.
Department and Office Assistants
Positions in a business or academic office that involve administrative tasks, including answering phones, data entry, and managing small projects.
Education & Training
Positions in elementary, secondary, postsecondary, and adult education, as well as positions focusing on employee training and development. This includes tutoring, classroom teaching, grading assignments, and learning & talent development.
Facilities and Landscaping
Positions focused on maintaining the UW-Madison campus, such as custodians or any other facilities work.
Federal Work-Study Preferred
Positions that prefer student employees to have Federal Work-Study. All on-campus positions at UW-Madison are work-study eligible.
Government and Public Administration
Positions in local, state, or federal government, as well as non-governmental organizations (NGOs) focused on government advocacy and policy.
Graduate Assistant – Programs/Projects
Open only to graduate students, these positions support research, training, or other academic programs or projects.
Graduate Assistant – Research
Research Assistants are UW–Madison graduate students receiving stipends to support their own education and training.

Graduate Assistant – Teaching Assistant
Open only to graduate students, these roles involve teaching responsibilities in an instructional program under the supervision of a faculty member. Teaching assistant positions for undergraduates can be found under education and training.
Graduate Fellowships
Open only to graduate students, these roles are tied to specific graduate fellowships through the Graduate School, a department, or external sources.
Healthcare and Health Sciences
Positions related to jobs in healthcare, medical research, and healthcare administration.
Higher Education–Student Affairs
Positions focused on supporting student success in higher education to enhance growth and development.
Hospitality
Positions in the hospitality field, such as restaurants and hotels.
Information Technology and Computers
Positions involving software and/or hardware related to computer technology, such as help desk positions or website development.
Libraries, Archives, and Museums
Positions located in a library, archive, or museum, as well as other divisions that use archival and library knowledge (e.g., archiving documents for an academic department).

Positions working for not-for-profit/nonprofit organizations outside of UW-Madison that focus on community service and development.
Performing and Visual Arts
Positions in creative roles, performance, administration, and support roles relating to performing and visual arts. This could include a museum tour guide or a stage manager for a theater performance.
Pet and House-sitting (Short-term)
Positions for pet and/or house sitters on a one-time basis (i.e. for a single trip out of town).
Pet and House-sitting (Long-term)
Positions for pet and/or house sitters on a repeating basis (i.e. weekly or daily for a semester).
STEM
Positions related to Science, Technology, Engineering, and/or Math, including tutoring or assisting in a research laboratory.
Summer Off-Campus Opportunities
This category is for summer positions outside the university or outside of Madison. Jobs in this category may offer temporary part-time or full-time employment for a specified period over the summer prior to your return to school.
