Allen Centennial Garden is a teaching garden dedicated to deepening connections among people and plants. We are part of the Plant and Agroecosystem Sciences Department and located on campus. The Garden is open for free to the public every day. We maintain many different kinds of garden spaces and host educational events and classes.
- Maintain existing garden spaces through weeding, planting, and mulching
- Assist with equipment maintenance and general “back of house” cleaning and organization
- Develop and lead informal garden walk for adult volunteers
- Collaborate with other staff, interns, and volunteers to complete garden projects
- Assist with managing soil quality, composting, and bed preparations for all seasons
- Occasionally greet guests and answer questions (or direct to someone who can)
- Students will learn how to identify plants and the methods needed take care of specific garden area
- Students will work in a team environment and learn how to work collaboratively to achieve large goals
- Students will effectively communicate with staff, visitors, and volunteers
- Students will research, develop, and deliver a short presentation about plants
