SSC Course Offerings and Schedule

The kick‑off event brings the cohort together for the first time. You will meet your fellow participants to begin forming connections.  We will also review the program structure, expectations, and shared goals.

In this course, you’ll explore the potential of student employment as a high-impact practice, discuss key stages of student development, and define your own supervisor philosophy. You’ll also have the opportunity to connect with fellow participants and build a collaborative network.

In this course, we will consider how to ensure your work environment is student-ready and explore ways to holistically support student employees’ well-being.

• Explore the 8 dimensions of well-being 
• Understand the current generation of students and consider the current data trends for what students want most in a workplace 
• Create an action plan to make your unit student employment ready

This course highlights best practices in recruiting, hiring, and onboarding student employees. A holistic approach to student recruiting and onboarding aids in seamlessly integrating student employees into your team.

Maya Angelou said that “feedback is a gift, but it’s up to you to unwrap it.” This course explores how to make student evaluations and performance improvement plans gifts worth giving and receiving.

• Effectively evaluate a student employee’s behavior and performance
• Identify key components to include when conducting performance improvement plans.
• Practice techniques to support  well-being while navigating difficult conversations

Our celebration and reflection creates intentional space for the cohort to look back on their journey and recognize meaningful moments of growth.  Grounded in John Dewey’s reminder that “We do not learn from experience… we learn from reflecting on experience,” the session encourages you to transform experiences into insight and action. Together, we will celebrate progress and set goals for the future.

Work Study, i-9s, FERPA oh my! This course breaks down the essential regulations and compliance requirements for student employment.

Virtual

Canvas, Workday, Teams, Outlook, AI… and the list goes on and on! This course explores the wide variety of digital tools available to best support student employees and encourages supervisors to consider ways to utilize technology to increase efficiencies in the work.

• Explore digital tools available to support training, efficiencies, and work output
• Discuss the impact of AI in student hiring and supervision
• Share resources available for further in-depth digital tool training
