As part of the UW-Madison Smart Restart plan, the ability for students to work on campus in undergraduate student-hourly positions has been expanded effective July 1, 2020.
- Schools, colleges, and divisions will require approval from their local leadership to proceed with hiring undergraduate student-hourly employees for work on campus. All public health protocols, as defined by campus guidance, must be followed to promote the health and safety of our campus community.
- If the student work involves research activities, guidelines issued by VCRGE also need to be followed. Work that can be successfully completed off campus (remote) should not be conducted by students on campus.
The campus is still operating under a hiring freeze, but deans and vice chancellors are authorized to approve exceptions in their organizations, including the hiring of undergraduate student-hourly employees. In July, hiring for onsite undergraduate student-hourly positions will be limited to research and public-facing services only.
- We encourage those hiring students to indicate on your job postings whether students will have the ability to work fully remote, partially remote, or cannot work remote within your roles. Within Student Jobs, you can do-so by utilizing the “Remote-Work Eligibility” field on the job card and can expand on that selection within the Advertisement Text ‘Remote Work Eligibility’ section.
